Onsite Interpreting

Get the right interpreter to the right location

IMP handles everything that makes onsite interpreting complex: location management, proximity-based dispatch, map navigation, mileage tracking, and buffer time between back-to-back appointments.

The Onsite Workflow

From job creation to arrival in four steps

1

Create with Location

Select a saved address or enter a new one. OpenStreetMap geocodes it and shows a map preview.

2

Broadcast by Proximity

Interpreters are sorted by distance to the job. The closest qualified interpreter is ranked first.

3

Accept + Confirm

Interpreter accepts from their phone. Admin confirms. Interpreter sees full address and map.

4

Navigate + Arrive

One tap opens Google Maps or Apple Maps with turn-by-turn directions to the appointment.

Location Management

Addresses that work — geocoded, mapped, and saved

Every account can store multiple locations with structured address fields: street, city, state, zip. When an address is entered, OpenStreetMap geocodes it and displays a map preview so you can verify the pin is in the right spot before saving.

Saved locations appear as a dropdown when creating jobs for that account — no retyping addresses. The location flows through to the interpreter's job detail view with a full map and navigation buttons.

  • Structured fields: Street, City, State, Zip
  • OpenStreetMap geocoding with map preview
  • Multiple saved locations per account
  • Quick-select dropdown during job creation

Proximity Matching

The closest qualified interpreter goes first

When broadcasting an onsite job, IMP calculates the distance between each interpreter's home address and the job location. Interpreters are sorted by proximity so the admin can see who's closest — reducing travel time, mileage costs, and no-show risk.

A hospital in Baltimore needs a Spanish interpreter at 9 AM tomorrow. IMP shows that Maria is 4 miles away, James is 12 miles away, and David is 28 miles away. Maria sees the job first.

  • Distance calculated from interpreter home to job location
  • Sorted by proximity in broadcast modal
  • Combined with language, certification, and availability filters
  • Reduces mileage expenses and travel time

Navigation

One tap from job detail to turn-by-turn directions

Every confirmed onsite job shows Google Maps and Apple Maps navigation buttons in the interpreter's job detail view. One tap launches their preferred map app with the destination pre-loaded — no copying addresses, no searching.

  • Google Maps and Apple Maps buttons on every onsite job
  • OpenStreetMap preview shows location on a map
  • Works on any device — iOS, Android, desktop
  • Interpreter PWA makes it feel like a native app

Buffer Time + Expenses

Prevent back-to-back scheduling disasters

Onsite interpreters need travel time between appointments. IMP's configurable buffer time setting prevents double-booking by adding automatic gaps between jobs. If an interpreter has a 10 AM appointment in Baltimore and a buffer of 60 minutes, they can't be booked for anything until 11 AM plus the job duration.

Mileage and parking expenses are tracked per job and included as line items on invoices automatically — charged to the account, the interpreter, or both.

  • Configurable buffer time between onsite appointments
  • Double-booking prevention with conflict detection
  • Mileage tracking per job
  • Parking expense tracking
  • Expenses appear as invoice line items automatically
